Probably the most “Chill” bar/cafe in Udon Thani, and easily one of my favourites!
The place is probably best of the evening, for ambiance anyway. The entrance has a heap of vines hanging over the front of it that hang almost to the ground, making it not such an easy place to find from street of a day, but of an evening, the lighting makes this place really stand out – it’s what got me in here for the first time. Behind the vines there’s some nice yellow fairy lights and the cafe is well lit up that makes it look intriguing, and a place you just have to check out (even it’s just a “poke ya head in” to take a look).
Just before entering the cafe, there’s an outside kitchen where all the cooking happens. It actually works well cause it keeps the place nice and cool inside and adds to the whole “intriguing” look of the place…I mean, you start to walk up, and then see this outdoor kitchen, and you take in the smell coming from it, and it just makes you more interested – it’s like a cafe sales funnel 🙂
The inside has two levels, the main ground floor with 2 lounge type areas/tables, and a long table 6-7 seater table with steel type chairs where you can sit with a big group of friendsfor a party or night out, but is also is a popular spot for the people wanting to set their laptops up and work away from. I opted for the lounge area first time, but this area the second – you know – mix it up a little.
The upstairs area has around 6 tables and probably seats around 15 people. And then there’s the outside area with 2-3 tables but isn’t the most popular spot right now as the weather is quite hot here (35 degrees most days with a “feels like” of 45 degrees).
The design, furniture, music and lighting of this place is what makes it so chill. I’m a huge fan of lighting, and find that a large majority of places in in Thailand use the fluresetn lighting which just makes the price to bright and white. The lighting here is really warm, dim, and yellow and got that “mellow yellow” thing on, so not too bright, but enough to see the food your eating or read a book.
The couches here are too much to give up…if you’re in a relaxed mood and looking to just lay back and chillout, they’ll invite you in and it’ll be hard to get off them and go home. They’re chesterfield style lounges and quite big and roomy, so a lot of space to lean back and stretch out. And then there’s the soft chill lounge music playing in the background…Angus and Julia Stone style – in fact one or two of the songs I think were Angus and Julia Stone…and so yeah…you might be lucky not to full asleep in the place if you’ve stolled in after a hard days work!
The food and drinks here are more than I could ask for! A selection to please almost anyone, including:
- Pizzas (starting from around 175 baht)
- Thai Dishes (but not your standard – very impressive and creative versions of your favourites – ranging between around 100 – 180 baht)
- Desserts (of course)
- A good beer selection (all around 90 baht)
- A great coffee selection (and quality too – around 65 baht for a coffee)
Quality and price is great – definitely value for money – in my opinion you get more calue than you spend here!
All in all, a fantastic cafe, chill bar, and restaurant – I think it covers all three of these quite well and it’s becoming a bit of “local” for me.
What were the main things you liked about the place?
- The vines covering the front of the cafe
- The lighting
- The design and architecture of the place – a little industrial, but warm and cozy feeling as well
- Price matched with the quality of food
- The music – nice and relaxing, but not boring.
What are the prices like?
I think you get more than you pay for here. I’ve taken some snaps of the food menu with prices – so let me know what you think!
