Cafe with a view! This place is a hidden gem in the Ao Nang area, and although not easy to notice walking by on the main street, it’s become pretty popular for the coffee and healthy breakfast lovers.
This cafe sits up on a second floor with an open lounge/balcony area where you can plonk yourself down on a cushion and take in the great mountain view of Ao Nang bay. It even has a cool little entrance where you literally walk up a steel ladder to enter…BUT…there is a more familiar method of entering as well, which involves walking up the hill a little more and simply walk straight in.
The whole upstairs area is open allowing the breeze to pass through, and because it’s well covered/shaded, even in the middle of a hot day, it’s quite fresh and peaceful upstairs so no need for the dry air of air-conditioners.
The cafe is very inviting and from the moment you walk in, you feel like you’re in a cozy chillout lounge room where all you want to do is sit back, relax, and maybe even have a little snooze 🙂
It’s always been nice and quiet too when I’ve been here. Other than the coffee machine grinding in the background, and a few people talking quietly amongst themselves, you really have your own little space here and a place to fully relax over a good cuppa’ or tasty dish from their food menu.
Their coffee is up there with the best in Ao Nang I think, but the price is a little higher than others. I generally get a cappuccino or latte for 90 baht from here, but you can get a piccolo latte for 80 baht…so that probably gives you an overall idea of all their coffee prices. If not – take a look at the image gallery, I snapped one of the coffee menu in there. Although the prices might be a little higher here, the ambience and view you take in from this place is something most of the others don’t offer…so…consider that, and they don’t make you feel unwelcome if you want to just chill there for a couple of ours and only order a drink or two.
The food menu looks delicious, and although I’ve only ever been to this cafe for the coffee, I see a lot of early birds coming in here for a healthy breakfast after a bike ride or walk, or simply just to start the day after waking up. Their food menu has a good range to choose from, and it’s reasonably priced as well, and I wouldn’t say it’s either pricey or cheap – I’d say it’s pretty much on par most other places serving quality food around here.
The other thing I love about these guys is their opening hours. They open at 7:30am, hence why it’s a great spot for me, because I’m generally wanting a coffee around 7am-8am and it can be hard to find a place open in a lot places around Thailand. These guys not only open early, but they do amazing coffee as well – so Lion & Shark is a favourite for me.
If you’re in the Ao Nang area – check em out! They’re well worth the stop.
What were the main things you liked about the place?
Here’s what stood out for me in the first 5 minutes
- Quality coffee
- The view
- The Ambiance – super chillout zone!
- Powerpoints and good WiFi
What are the prices like?
Higher than others – but consider the ambiance and view that comes with it. I think it’s well priced for what you get.
Where are they located?
Probably best to check out the map – it’s not an easy one to find from the main street. Keep your eyes out for a second floor terrace and there is a small sign that hangs out the front that you can see from the street. But that’s about all you’ll see. You’ll need hang a right (if ya heading towards the beach) up the hill (a driveway) for a few meters and then enter in from the side.
