Craft beer, live music, great food, great location and an overall good atmosphere…what’s there not to like about this place?

Alright, so it was the craft beer that got me into this place to start with. I hadn’t long been in udon Thani city before I was searching Google on some places around town that served up good craft beer. There were a few options to choose from, however this one looked like it ticked all the boxes. It was also in a good location (UD Town) where there’s a heap of eateries, markets and other bars and restaurants that I could turn to should this place not live up to my expectations…and my expectations were high!

What dissapoints most when reading up on a place that specialises in craft beer is that sometimes they promote a large range of beers to choose from, but when you get there you find out that none of taps are working and 50% of the beers are out of stock. Well it certainly wasn’t the case with this joint!

When you first open the doors to Hop Fusion, you’re directly facing a good sized four door glass fridge with their range of bottled/canned craft beers and ciders…and there’s a LOT! So there’s none of this “sorry, we’re out of stock” nonsense going on, you can litterally see what’s on offer as soon as you walk in the door…and everytime I’ve been here the fridge (or should I say fridges) have been WELL stocked. As tempted as I was with a lot of the bottles beers, I always love to check out what’s on Tap! So to the taps I went.

The first time here they had 3 different beers on tap, an IPA, a Pilsner, and a Pale Ale (I think….from memory). With my favourite being the IPA, I opted for this, and actually ordered the promotion they had going on which was order two, and get a third one free! Each beer was around 250 baht, so I figured 500 baht for three good size glasses of an IPA on tap was a pretty good deal! And it was…absolutely delicious!

Since my first visit there I’ve tried a few more of their tap beers, as they change them regularly (which is something else that makes you want to visit this place more often…as you never know what beers they will have on tap). I’ve also tried a few of their bottled beers as well, and…well…there’s not much to say really, as a bottled beer “here” tastes the same as a bottled beer “there”…just as long as it’s cold…which it was.

So what about the food? Well there’s a good selection on offer, but not too much that you’re overwhelmed with the selection. There’s a number of popular Thai dishes, and also some popular western dishes such as Australian Rib Eye steak, and good a good pizza menu.

So far I’ve tried (and loved all of them)

  • Phad Krapow Chicken
  • Som Tum (One of my favourites in Udon Thani)
  • Pork Steak

So if you’re feeling peckish while having your beer, cider or wine…there’s a great selection of food to choose from here as well. In fact, you may just choose to come here for the food alone as the servings are quite generous and good quality that you may choose to come here just for that.

Then there’s the live music that adds to all of this. At around 7pm the acoustic live music starts up which really adds to the whole atmosphere of the place and overall experience. About every hour the band changes giving you a good mix of music over about a 3 hour period. It’s all generally soft acoustic and easy listening so you’ll still feel relaxed and chill while stille being able to talk and hear a conversation among friends. I really recommend planing your visit here to catch at least 30 mins of the live music.

The place opens at 4pm, so it’s more of an evening place…meaning most of the hours you spend there it’ll be night time, which suits the place well, as its lighting is dim and a little “romantic” offering a really relaxed, smooth and classy vibe to the place. By classy, I don’t mean “snobby”….But rather “quality”. Everything from the furniture to the wine and beer, the food, and the live music that kicks in around 7pm…it’s all real quality.

The place seats around 30 people (a few more if you consider the outside benches and tables) and has a number of seating options. There’s some laid back sofa options with tables between them for a more cruizy style of dining/drinking, the more classic style dining tables and chairs (some seating 2-4, others seating 6-8), and then some more bar type tables with stools (seating around 2-3 people).

Well that’s about all write on this place in this post, however I could go on. But if you love your craft beer, cider, or even just a good venue with some live acoustic music…Hop Fusion is definitely worth a visit!

What are the prices like?

I was impressed with the prices here considering what you get for the whole experience. People might complain about the price of craft beer, but that’s because craft beer and win are expensive in all of Thailand because of the tax, so anything imported is always going to be a little expensive. But I like they way they try and make up for this by running their promotions (like the buy 2 get one free). The food is really well priced, and quite cheap for a restaurant that holds the class and quality these guys do.

Where are they located?

If you head to the McDonalds and/or Villa Market in UD Town, you’ll see a bridge/walkway that crosses the main road (Posri Road) towards a small village (Called Mill Mall Place). It’s in this small mall/village there.  See the map below for exact details.
