This is popular spot for the morning breakfast and coffee lovers (both foreigners and Thai) with their early opening hours, great selection of breakfasts (thai and western) and top quality coffee!
Opening at 7am in the morning also gives them the advantage to get the early bird crowd as most places generally open around 8pm onwards.
But it’s not just a morning place either, there’s a great selection of meals avaiable for you right up until 6pm – including some tasy looking sandwiches, pastas, smoothies, thai dishes and a number of other crafty/modern fusion dishes I’m unable to name without refrencing the menu.
This place was one of my first stops a year or so back when I paid my first visit here and was out on my “good coffee hunt” walk. The place isn’t so visible from the street, as it’s tucked away in the corner of a plaza/car park, so you’ll most likely need your google maps open to locate the place (I’ve included the map below as well). Even once you’ve found the place – it hasn’t got the huge frontage or “WOW” factor entrance you’d expect from a quality place like Dose, but once you enter, it has all the good signs of a quality cafe.
There’s a good selection of tables and chairs to choose from and probably seats around 30 people in total. The interior is well designed and certainly doesn’t have a cheap look, it’s got all the modern cafe touches to it, including the overall interior design of place, and in particular the lighting (which is what stood out for me). There’s the quality coffee machine warm and ready to make your fresh coffee, bags of freshly roasted coffee beans stacked on shelves around the cafe for sale, and of course, that beautiful smell of freshly roasted coffee when opening the front door – which told me I was gonna get a good coffee from these guys. Then there’s the little promo leaflets/banners located around the cafe which romote some of their popular dishes, and they all looked awesome! So I was also convinced I was going to get a quality meal here too.
The Coffee was bang on! The house blend has a great strength and flavour, both as an americano and as a cappuccino, and as a piccolo latte and as every other coffee I’ve tried in this place :-). The cup size is perfect too, for all the variations, for example the cappuccino cup isn’t huge like you find in some places, but enough to make you feel like you’ve had a cappucino and not a cafe macchiato and still with a good ratio of milk:coffee. But if the smaller coffee is what you’re after, they have the piccolo latte for you as well.
Another thing that stood out for me was their Iced Chocolate, so much so, I bought a bag of their own freshly ground/powdered coco to take home to make my own chocolate drinks!
The food here is very impressive, both in quality, selection/variet and price. There is a huge range of western dishes to choose from, and a great selection of Thai dishes as well. They also vary in price quite a lot giving you a good option of dishes to choose based on price. For example, you can get two poached eggs on toast with grilled tomato, for 99 baht OR you can go for a Salmon Eggs Benedict (or eggs florentine) for 255 baht. There’s a good range of Eggs Bendict to choose from ranging between 200 – 255 baht, including a spinach and mushroom version, ham and cheese version, and one or two others.
The poached eggs here were cooked perfectly, and the bread was that rustic sourdough type which for me is the perfect match with eggs. I’d say they’ve changed their bread supplier or selection since my first visit, as the photos I have on the salmon and poached eggs wasn’t the same bread I got the other day (which was a doughier more sourdough type bread).
From your 99 baht meals to your 255 baht meals, you really get what you pay for. At the higher price, you’re getting more expensive ingredients (and quality) and large portions.
One thing I probably should mention is their club sandwich, which, although I haven’t tried yet, look amazing and quite a big sandwich! I found it impressive because the sandwich looked delicious, and quite sizy, and had a price of 150 baht…might be my next meal here.
The Thai meals are around 130 – 200 baht, and the coffee is around 65 baht (65 baht for a cappucino/latte).
All in all, a fantastic cafe and restaurant. Next stop will be their recently opened “Dose Factory” which is another branch off of Dose Espresso, but focuses more on the afternoons and evening meals with their opening hours being 10:30am – 10:00pm and have some amazing looking pizzas I’m looking forward to trying out. I have actually been here a couple of times, but just for a coffee, but will write more on this place once I check out some of their food.
What were the main things you liked about the place?
- Opening Hours (opens early) – 7:00
- The style and ambiance of the cafe – the selection of lighting is what stood out the most.
- The quality of coffee – one of the best here in Udon Thani (so far – still a lot more places to check out here).
- Great selection of Western Breakfast dishes including about 4 variations of the Eggs Benedict – and all served with perfectly poached eggs and good quality bread/toast
- The staff – friendly and great service – ability to attend to your table without hasseling you too much or taking your plate away too early 🙂
What are the prices like?
Very well priced menu – with some cheaper options, and more expensive options if you’re looking to endulge a little.
